Izumi is a delightful partnership between Amsterdammer and Japanese chefs. It’s not easy to enjoy fish of this quality and freshness in Antwerp, with the chirashi sushi especially delicious in a cozy ambience.

Founded in 1988 by Chef Kurasawa, Santatsu established itself in Antwerpen as a place for Japanese hospitality, omotenashi, and fish of the freshest quality. Unfortunately the standard during our visit fell short of such repute. While lunch menu was undoubtedly great value with food prepared earnestly, the fish served in our chirashi sushi was sadly not the freshest, and the waiting staff seemed overwhelmed. Believe it could have been an off day in their otherwise solid track record, so will keep an open mind about another visit.

Popular dog-friendly restaurant by the Army Museum. It can get quite lively and crowded, so do expect some noise. Lunch is casual with interesting rotations on a daily basis. Guests can order at the counter and pick up some pastries on display with complimentary tea/coffee. Lovely queen scallops, which was a good preview of the promising dinner menu. Special doggo menu also available, basically kibbles and ice cream. Welcoming staff who took care of the dogs equally as well as the other guests.

Delicious braised pork belly and cucumber cold appetiser. Decent chive pork dumplings. The beef noodle soup here was a plainer version of the dish. Nevertheless, the broth was simmered from quality beef cuts. Great service and they take pride in their food. Props to them for staying authentic.

The unique national heritage park was fully established only in 2015, and features more than 40 artistic installations. Fun day trip to visit and read up about the sculptures across the park, check out the restaurants, and enjoy panoramic city views.
