Stockholm City Museum

Really good museum to learn more about Stockholm’s history. Admission is free but they are closed on Mondays. Located in a very convenient location next to Slussen train station.
I thought the exhibition divides the time period well and there are English signs on most of the exhibits.
Unfortunately audio guide seems to be only in Swedish. My most favourite part is the exhibition around the building history of the City Hall. There are many old pictures with detailed explanation in English and Swedish. This was presented through a screen where you can take your time to view each image. As with all museums in Stockholm, portable chairs are available so you can take your time!
Lastly I also think they have the best gift shop out of all the museums. Many interesting post cards and merchandise

Beautiful art gallery on a building that is old European style. Very beautiful building and they also have a sculpture courtyard which has skylight and gives a great ambiance.
On site restaurant/cafe/bar is also of very good quality. The dining area is big and have a lot of light.
The museum also has an app with audio guides and elaborate details. The reason I give a 4 star is I thought they could do a better job to present each exhibition in bite size format. Most of the time each exhibition floor only has 2 or at most 3 segments (and it is a very big place). I wish there was more emphasize on the story of people and history too to educate a general audience like me (I can’t say I am a big arts connoisseur).
Otherwise it is a very lovely building and art collection still worth a visit.

The Hallwyl Museum

Impressive mansion turned museum in the middle of the city. The entrance is very unassuming and I think this is one of a hidden gem even as a local as it is easy to think of this as some rich person’s house that can be shallow.
In fact I think the Hallwyl family has to be recognized for their vision to curate their house as a museum and later on donating the property and everything in it to the country.
During the visit, unfortunately the art gallery floor was not available (they said not all floors are available and they don’t have a schedule). I highly recommend to purchase the audio guide during your visit as it adds so much depth to the story.
I am definitely coming back multiple times to see the areas not available including the art gallery and it looks like they also open the cellar for special events and the courtyard only opens seasonally in the summer.

A must visit while in Stockholm if you like history. Although I think even if you are not big into it you would still very much enjoy the unique experience. I don’t think pictures do justice to this place or the incredibly mind blowing story behind the ship.
The museum is incredibly well laid out. I highly recommend doing the guided tour (free and available in different languages) and watching the short documentary available in the museum theatre.
There is restaurant and free locker on premise as well
