Must see museum on the eastern edge of Bosque de Chapultepec. I went on Sunday when entry is free. It was not at all crowded upon opening or during the 90 minutes of my stay there.

Lots to see and enjoy and contemplate. I was surprised to be as captivated as I was with the volcanos exhibit. Volcanoes, both active and dormant, play a significant role in the Mexican psyche. The idea that nature can be both destructive and nurturing as well as unpredictable. Seismic activity accounts for much devastation in the distant past as well as in more recent history. During my stay the city conducted a seismic alert/readiness test as they do annually to keep the public aware of the threat and how to stay safe when the next one strikes.

In addition to the many striking exhibits the building itself is also beautiful and adds to the aesthetic appeal of the entire experience.
Beautiful church of the Franciscan order very close to the Zocalo in Centro Historico. Take time to go inside and appreciate the tranquility that comes with a few moments’ respite inside a house of worship.
Wow what a beautiful mansion to tour with its furnishings and artwork intact. You’re transported back in time a century or more to witness the niceties of life for the Mexican aristocracy. The upstairs is inaccessible but there’s enough to gawk at it the small rooms downstairs to get an idea of the comfort and splendor enjoyed by the wealthy. Descend the stairs to the verdant garden where you’ll complete the tour of this gorgeous home.

Staff are very courteous, from the armed security guards outside on the sidewalk to the room attendants inside.

When I decided to take a second look through the rooms after completing the tour, the very kind woman at the front of the mansion reassured me, “You may go as many times as you wish.” She made me feel very welcome indeed! Thank you, kind madame!
Eat super fresh birria tacos and a light yet flavorful consome while rocking out to the salsa tunes of the amiable birria taquero.

This is not a famous spot but it had enough glowing reviews to draw me there.

For 45p you get three petite tacos with steaming hot chopped birria, just the right mix of meat and fat, adorned with chopped onion and ready for you to dress with red salsa, a sprinkle of salt and a squeeze of lime if you please. Between bites of birria taco, savor a spoonful of broth and watch the little happy dance the taquero does partially for the customers but mostly for his own pleasure I believe.

This is not a taco stand to go out of your way to, however if you are in the neighborhood definitely swing by for this simple but comforting food for the soul.
