Setapak Central Mall
2023 Sep 04
It's sort of a mish-mash, mix-but-not match retail stores in this medium-size mall (3floors in total) considering it is suppose to be THE in-thing for shopping and entertainment in Setapak.
There are lots of stalls, the anchor tenant being both Econsave and Parkson. You can find eateries ranging from up-class to own branded stores selling almost everything under one roof.
There are three pharmacies here - Healthlane, Watsons, Guardian, quite enough for what you might need to buy and get.
Only one thing is lacking in this mall - no seats for tired old people to just sit while their family members shop.
Do provide some seats on every level. It helps and when you've rested, you can continue to shop somemore!

Soon Fatt Bak Kut Teh
2023 Jul 29
I don't understand why the place is called Soon Fatt when clearly, the signboard spells "Soon Sheong". Has there been a change in management?
The place is oddly empty, with only one family eating there when we arrived.
We ordered the classic bak kut teh, taufoo pok and braised pig trotters.
Having read the review by our local "Auntie Boleh" when she did a foodie review on it a month back, we were quite taken aback and disappointed with the food. There was no fish dishes, no veggy dishes and the bak kut teh and braised pork trotters tasted just "ordinary". Nothing unique or outstanding for us to remember them by. Tea leaves were not fragrant at all and we just ate quietly, wanting to just get over breakfast. The bill was on the high side, hence, sorry, but i think something has changed and I don't think i'll be back again.

Restaurant Kota Zheng Zong Bah Kut Teh
2024 Jan 23
Without reading any reviews, my brother and i decided to just park by the main road and patronise this house-turned shop restaurant. We ordered their "famous" kota bak-kut-teh with addition of small pig intestines. Added a claypot of braised pork trotters and complete it with salted vegetables and "you tiao".
1. The bak-kut bones are short and tasted dry and flaky but the soup is overwhelmingly smothered with spices and herbs and sugar. It really tasted like "sugar herbal bak-kut soup".
2. The claypot pig trotters were a disappointment and disaster. The meat was drained of its juices(like it was extracted of juices and boiled again). It was coarse, dry and tasteless.
3. The white rice served was wet and clumpy and both my brother and I suffered massive stomach indigestion the whole day after consuming it.
4. The only saving grace was the tender and juicy pig intestines and the salted veggies, which were just nice and not overly salty.
This restaurant employs a lot of foreigners and though i only saw them serving, i certainly hope the owner would not let them cook the food for us because they would have NO IDEA how bak-kut-teh is supposed to taste like.
Nope, wont be going back there again...
