In the mid-19th century, fresh, pure drinking water was difficult to obtain in Ottawa. Residents could either purchase it from water carriers who hauled it up from the Ottawa River, Or fetch it from their local public well. This made life difficult for the citizenry, and there was a demand for readily available fresh water. In response, the City of Ottawa financed the construction of wells and drinking fountains throughout the streets of Ottawa. These wells and fountains were usually at prominent intersections and designed for use by both people and animals. Many were handsomely designed in cast iron or stone and became integral parts of the streetscape.
We got Sunday night takeaways at this market to eat at the harbour front. Many shoppers but didn't feel crowded. Good selection of food. Also stalls for games, souvenirs and some clothing.
An awe-inspiring old building from 1120 with the surrounding graveyard. Inside is similar to many cathedrals but the central "arch" is unusual! Lovely stain glass windows . During our visit the organist was practicing so added to the spiritual feeling of the church.

A good dining experience so we came back a second time and we're happy. Fast friendly service, very full and freshly baked pizzas and a tasty ( but small?) salad. The happy hour beers are good value.
A fun and interesting experience. The historic station is beautifully preserved and decorated. Cafe, souvenirs etc. available. Train ride about 2 hours with a 20 minute stop at a waterfall along the way. The multilingual narration on earphones about the origins of the Ushuaia prison and railway is very interesting. Online bookings in advance recommended, both for train and the Parque National. Note: check Spam folder for the train ticket/QR code if not received after payment. Staff at the ticket office very helpful and fully bilingual.
