Unfortunately the Roman gate is covered up by a facsimile hoarding to protect it, I imagine. Somewhat disappointed as a result, but as it's at the end of the busiest shopping streets in Verona maybe has to be protected from the surge of passers by.

When you are there, if the crowd is not too many, close your eyes and imagine during the ancient Roman times, where soldiers guarded, patrolled and collected tribute at the city's gates. (It is especially challenging for immersive travellers on a weekend, with tour guides swishing the flags of sorts and talking loudly to grab attention of their flocks and the particular flocks I meant are noisy seagulls AKA tourists yapping loudly with clickey cameras) Indeed, a regal principal entry point into the metropolis. Look for the inscription "245" and the ancient Roman name of the city are preserved: Colonia Verona Augusta, it is at the lower tier. After the gate, take a stroll along narrow streets lined with multitudinous fashionable boutiques, cafes, shops, delis, B and Bs.
