One of the most beautiful museums I have been too. Great Value, tons of content. Up on a hill overlooking most of Budapest with excellent views even before going inside. Paintings, sculpture and other mediums represented throughout this well organized accessible museum.

Establish in 1957 as the national art museum that is located in Buda Castle of Budapest.
A variety and massive collections including paintings, sculptures and wood altars from the 15th century to the present.
With a more or less - 6,000 paintings, 2,100 sculptures. 3,100 medals, 11,000 drawings and 5,000 prints including artifacts in chronological order dating from 10th century until present day.
Mostly, the display has an English description which is easy to understand.
If you want to read one by one, it will take 3 hrs. to complete it.

There is a cloakroom for your bags and the coats.
Foods and water are prohibited in the museum.
Reminder that you don't touch the paintings.
Recommendable to visit when you're in Budapest.
Tickets are free if using Budapest Card.

Great place to spend time and learn about art. The prices for the tickets are also quite ok (especially if you're under 26 years old) Despite beautiful art there's also a possibility to watch an amazing view.

I went with a friend on a holiday with free admission. The gallery does a good job of taking you through Hungarian art history. There is a lot of information about the artists, their education, and their influences. You can also take the stairs to the top of the rotunda for a nice view of the Danube and Pest side as well as the Buda hills.

A great way to see Hungarian artists and learn a little about the culture of Budapest. I would say if you’re looking for more European/famous artists this is probably not the place for you. Apart from a few Monet and Claude, there aren’t too well known artists. Most of the second floor gallery is filled with the same artist (great if you love them) but would for sure like to see a little more variation. Would recommend the photographic exhibition if you love learning about how Budapest developed as a country in a visual format.

It has old paintings to modern art. There are many statues. Paintings take you on a journey, they are like photographs. We spent two and a half hours in there. If you go to Budapest it is a place I recommend!!! it is located in the castle of the Buda.

Great museum to go and see some Hungarian art pieces. At the time I visited the collection was 18th century and onward. I think it is best to start from the first floor (the earliest pieces) and continue your way up to the top floor where there is contemporary art.

I loved it, probably the gallery that was most worth a visit. I learnt about Hungarian artists (which were mostly unknown to me earlier) and got the chance to see the temporary exposition about Budapest's Golden Age. Do spend a few extra florins and visit it, you'll be amazed by the vintage postcards and before-afters of the city!
