Offers a stunning view of Edinburgh's skyline. Its grandeur adds to the city's charm, making it a must-visit spot in Scotland for its iconic beauty and breathtaking vistas
It's some columns on a hill and that's it with the monument.
But if the weather is good, the view in the rest of the city is astonishing!
And it's super close to the city Center.

Calton hill beautiful 360° views of Scotland’s capital and some monuments dedicated to Napoleonic wars and Scottish Enlightenment figures, easy accessible via a few not to steep paths
For me this is the best monument in Scotland. Really cool. On the photos doesn't seem really big but in reality is really huge. And also is there nice place for beautiful view on city.
The National Monument of Scotland, located on Calton Hill in Edinburgh, is a striking neoclassical structure that stands as a symbol of Scottish national pride and identity. Conceived in the early 19th century as a monument to commemorate Scottish soldiers who fought and died in the Napoleonic Wars, the National Monument was designed to resemble the Parthenon in Athens, Greece.
Construction of the monument began in 1826 but was never completed due to a lack of funds. As a result, the National Monument remains unfinished, with only the base and some of the columns completed. Despite its incomplete state, the monument still commands attention and admiration for its grandeur and architectural significance.
Perched atop Calton Hill, the National Monument offers panoramic views of Edinburgh's skyline and serves as a focal point for visitors exploring the city's historic sites and landmarks. While its original purpose as a war memorial was never fully realized, the monument has come to symbolize the resilience and determination of the Scottish people.
Today, the National Monument of Scotland stands as a cherished heritage site and a testament to Scotland's rich cultural heritage and national identity. It serves as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by Scottish soldiers in defense of their country and remains a cherished landmark for residents and visitors alike.

Fun spot to learn about this part of scotlands history and why they call it the Athens of the North. Interesting to learn that the plan was supposedly to build the full size replica of the Parthenon but ran out of funds in the 1800 so turned into somewhat of a ruin like the original. Great views of the city and North Sea as well
Great view from the top of the hill that the monument is on. Definitely worth a walk up the stairs. Be warned if it’s windy you will feel it up there even more.
Beautiful area to go for a nice walk. The monument or monuments are beautiful and it's a great place to get a beautiful view of the city.
I don't think the place is very buggy friendly or wheelchair friendly but maybe I just didn't find the right way to go up. If you're with a baby, I recommend bringing a baby carrier.
